Did Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie become "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" on Christmas Day?
The unconfirmed rumor du jour has Hollywood's No. 1 celebrity couple spiriting their brood off to the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean to swap "I dos." The Dec. 25 ceremony allegedly took place at designer Donna Karan's Parrot Cay estates, suggests the Telegraph, and those in attendance were said to have included Brad's parents Jane and William Pitt, and his brother Doug and sister Julie.
A representative for Pitt's management team did not return a phone call and an e-mail seeking comment Wednesday. And reports about the nuptials all include plenty of caveats including "maybe," and "possibly" and "might-have-but-might-not-have-so-don't-blame-us-if-it's-not true."
But IIT (If It's True), it means Pitt and Jolie managed to pull off the wedding of the century while simultaneously pulling a fast one over on the media.
And while we can't help but feel as if we were robbed of seeing the couple's sartorial choices for taking that long-awaited trip down the aisle, we can't begrudge them wanting to express their love without the annoying thump-thump-thump of a paparazzi helicopter hovering overhead.
The couple became involved while working on the 2005 action film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and have spent the last seven years building a life together and raising a family of six. For awhile, Pitt said the couple would not tie the knot until gays and lesbians also had the right to marry. But that resolve softened over the years, he said, as the couple's children begged and pleaded for a wedding.
The pair announced their engagement in April, and have remained coy about a wedding date.
Pitt has been married once before, to Jennifer Aniston. And Jolie has been married twice before, to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
